AML/CFT — New Zealand

Your AML/CFT annual report,
sorted — start free.

Every DIA-supervised business — real estate agencies, law firms, conveyancers, accountants, trust & company service providers — must file an annual report through AML Online by 31 August, and must hold a written risk assessment and AML/CFT programme behind it. Ten minutes of plain-English questions gets you your filing answers, formatted and ready — and a scorecard showing whether the documents behind them would stand up.

The build is year one. After that it's a filing, not a project.

Why we build it this way

Why the documents matter more than the report

The annual report itself is around sixty questions about your business — though not all of them apply to any one firm — and the free tool and the Report Pack handle those properly. What DIA actually penalises is what sits behind the answers: a missing or generic risk assessment (s.58), a programme that doesn't match how the firm really works (s.57), and audits that quietly went overdue (every 3 years, s.59). Those are the documents the Compliance Pack builds — from your answers, for your firm.

How the engine builds them →

Who this is for

Businesses supervised by the DIA.

Not certain whether you're captured? If you're genuinely not sure, ask us — we'll tell you straight, and we won't invoice you for a report you don't have to file.

Who's actually doing the work

Expertly Designed. Commercially Grounded.

AML solutions developed and led by a Chartered Accountant with 20+ years of experience across public practice, business operations, audit, and government sectors.

Chartered Accountant Led
A CA ANZ member, qualified over twenty years, leads the work.
Government & Audit Backed
Built on experience in audit and government finance, where the file has to stand up to inspection.
Commercially Minded
Years spent running businesses, not only advising them — so the process fits around how your firm actually works.

We prepare, you approve. You are the one who attests to the report, and we never file anything you haven't confirmed. That's not a formality — the obligations are your firm's, and the sign-off has to be yours.

This is a document preparation and filing service. It isn't legal advice, and we don't act as your AML/CFT compliance officer. The terms of engagement set out exactly where the line sits — they're worth the three minutes.

FAQ

Questions people actually ask.

Am I even captured by the AML/CFT Act?
If you're a real estate agency, law firm, conveyancer, accounting or bookkeeping practice, or you provide trust & company services, very likely yes — DIA supervises all of these. If you're genuinely not sure, ask us — we'll tell you straight, and we won't invoice you for a report you don't have to file. Our self-serve packs are built for all five of those sectors — real estate agencies, law firms, conveyancing practices, accounting or bookkeeping practices, and trust & company service providers. If your business is none of them, tell us about it and we quote by hand rather than taking payment first.
What happens if I miss 31 August?
There are no extensions — the window simply closes. If you're going to be late, the right move is to contact DIA before the deadline rather than go quiet, and to get the report in as soon as possible after. Better: use the free tool today and see how much of it is already done.
What are the consequences of not filing at all?
Failing to prepare or provide the annual report is a civil liability act under the AML/CFT Act 2009 — section 78(eb). The supervisor's options run from a formal warning or a censure, through an enforceable undertaking or an injunction, up to applying to the High Court for a civil pecuniary penalty. Non-filers get followed up. The practical point: late is a great deal better than never, so if you've already missed a window, say so and we'll deal with it rather than pretend it didn't happen.
Can't I just download a free template for the risk assessment?
DIA has warned specifically about this: section 58 requires an assessment of the risks your business actually faces, and generic template content is the most common way documents fail. That's why every document we generate is built from your questionnaire answers — your services, your customers, your channels — not a fill-in-the-blanks template.
Do you file the report for me?
On the free tool, Report Pack and Compliance Pack, you file it yourself — the walkthrough tells you exactly what to type, and the attestation at the end is yours to make, as the Act intends. On Done-with-you we prepare and file it together, and nothing is lodged until you've read and approved every word.
Who signs it off?
You do. We prepare, you approve. You are the one who attests to the report, and we never file anything you haven't confirmed. That isn't a formality — the obligations are your firm's, and the sign-off has to be yours.
What about the independent audit?
Your risk assessment and programme must be independently audited every 3 years. The free tool's scorecard tells you where your audit clock stands. One thing we're upfront about: if we wrote your documents, we can't also audit them — independence rules — and we'll point you to people who can.
Is this legal advice?
No. This is a document preparation and filing service. It isn't legal advice, and we don't take on the AML/CFT compliance officer role — that's held by a person your firm appoints under section 56 (for a firm with employees, one of your own people). The terms of engagement set out exactly where the line sits.
Is the free tool really free?
Yes. No sign-up to see your results, and your answers stay in your browser unless you choose to email yourself a copy. It's how we'd rather you meet us: useful first.
