QBCC annual reporting — Queensland

Your QBCC annual reporting,
with the working shown.

Categories 1–7 lodge by 31 December. SC1 and SC2 companies lodge a declaration by 31 March.

Every Queensland building licensee has to meet the minimum financial requirements all year and prove it to QBCC by 31 December. A few minutes of questions and one working day gets you your MFR position, the exact figures to enter in myQBCC, and your deadline calendar. You know where you stand before the deadline, no accountant, no waiting for year-end accounts. And every step is shown, so you can check it and re-run it next year.

Led by a Chartered Accountant — a CA ANZ member with 20+ years of experience across public practice, business operations, audit, and government sectors.

Your category sets your minimum, and your deadline.

Category comes from revenue, and it decides three things at once: the minimum net tangible assets you have to hold, what you lodge, and when. On top of it, at every category, a current ratio of at least 1:1 — met continuously, not only on your balance date.

Every category is in scope, SC1 through 7. Annual reporting is a self-declaration at Category 7 exactly as it is at Category 1. What differs at Categories 4 to 7 is that the statements you lodge must be general purpose, which come from your own accounts rather than from us, and that QBCC wants your debtors split across four ageing periods — which the pack does produce.

SC1 and SC2 individual licensees are exempt

SC1 and SC2 individual licensees have been exempt from annual financial reporting since March 2025. SC1 and SC2 companies are not — they lodge a declaration by 31 March. If you tell us you're exempt territory, we'll say so rather than sell you a pack you don't need.

Why this is worth buying

A number you can check beats a number you have to trust.

$92,400 on its own is a number to trust. The same figure with its working attached is a number you can check — and re-run yourself next year when one line has moved.

That is the whole difference between this and what you already pay someone else for. Your net tangible assets, your current ratio, and your revenue against your approved maximum — each computed from your own itemised balance sheet, each shown line by line, each called pass or attention against your category's threshold.

What you get

Four documents, generated from your answers.

01
Your MFR position
Net tangible assets and current ratio, computed from your own balance sheet lines against your category's thresholds. Pass or attention on every line, the >30% net tangible asset decrease trigger checked, and what to do about anything that fails.
02
The annual reporting figures
The exact figures to enter in myQBCC, plus the profit and loss and balance sheet for the categories that lodge management accounts. Integrity checks run first — does the balance sheet balance, does revenue agree to itself.
03
The lodgement walkthrough
Who lodges, by when, the steps in order, what the declaration you sign actually attests, and an honest account of what happens if it goes in late.
04
The calendar
This year's deadline, next year's, and the events in between that change your position — each one paired with your own number, so you know which of them you're near.

The pack also carries your approved maximum revenue against what you actually turned over, so you can see your headroom before a single large contract quietly uses it up.

All four are launch pricing, paid up front, confirmed on screen before you pay anything. Categories 4 to 7: your signed general purpose financial statements still come from your own accounts; we don't produce those, and the pack says so on its face. SC1 and SC2 individual licensees have been exempt from annual reporting since March 2025 — if that's you, the intake says so and you pay nothing. Full terms of engagement.

The honest version

The register is permanent. That's the part worth avoiding.

We're not going to tell you your licence is about to be cancelled. It isn't what usually happens, and you'd see straight through it.

The real reason to get this right is smaller and better: it is routine, it takes an afternoon you don't want to spend, the deadline is fixed — and the one consequence that genuinely lasts is a disciplinary action sitting on a public register permanently, where builders, developers and insurers can read it. That is entirely avoidable. Sorted, off the register, done for the year.

The boundaries

What we don't do.

Being straight about the limits is part of the pitch, not a disclaimer bolted to the bottom of it.

MFR reports
A decrease in net tangible assets of more than 30% (Categories 1–3) or 20% (Categories 4–7) requires a new MFR report prepared by a qualified accountant, as does an increase in approved maximum revenue or a category change. The pack detects the trigger, states it plainly and routes it. It does not pretend to satisfy it.
Producing general purpose financial statements
Categories 4 to 7 lodge signed general purpose financial statements, and this product does not prepare them — the reporting figures document says so on its face so nothing in it can be mistaken for GPFS. Their annual reporting itself is in scope, at AU$495, and so is the Schedule 3 paragraph (e) debtor ageing split that band alone has to lodge.
Audit, review or any other assurance
Nothing here is verified. It is prepared from the figures you provide, and every document says so at the top.
Lodging on your behalf
You lodge from your own myQBCC account and sign your own declaration. We never sign.

Chartered Accountant Led
A CA ANZ member, qualified over twenty years, leads the work.
Government & Audit Backed
Built on experience in audit and government finance, where the file has to stand up to inspection.
Commercially Minded
Years spent running businesses, not only advising them — so the process fits around how your firm actually works.

We prepare, you declare. Annual financial reporting is signed by the licensee or their nominated representative at every category. We do not sign, and cannot sign, the myQBCC declaration — the obligation is yours, and so is the sign-off.

This is not an audit, review or any other assurance engagement, and it is not financial, legal or investment advice. Everything is prepared from the figures you provide and has not been independently verified — every document in the pack says so on its face.

FAQ

Questions builders actually ask.

Do I legally need an accountant for this?
No. At every category — SC1 through Category 7 — the licensee or their nominated representative signs the declaration themselves. There is no required professional sign-off we are substituting for. What we do is the arithmetic, the reading and the deadline management, and we show every step so you can check it and re-run it yourself next year.
When is it due?
Categories 1 through 7 lodge by 31 December. SC1 and SC2 companies lodge a declaration by 31 March. SC1 and SC2 individual licensees have been exempt from annual financial reporting since March 2025 — if that's you, you don't need this and we'll say so rather than invoice you.
What actually happens if I don't lodge?
We're not going to tell you your licence is about to be cancelled — that isn't what usually happens, and you'd see straight through it if we did. The consequence that matters is quieter and more permanent: a disciplinary action stays on the public register, where builders, developers and insurers can see it, and it doesn't come off. That's an entirely avoidable outcome for an afternoon's work you don't want to spend.
How do you work out my net tangible assets?
From your own itemised balance sheet: total assets, less intangible assets, less disallowed assets — loans to directors, shareholders or related entities, and anything you couldn't realise if you had to — less total liabilities. Every line is shown. The single most common way a self-prepared position comes out wrong is subtracting intangible and disallowed items twice, once inside the asset totals and again as a deduction, which understates your net tangible assets. We take them out once.
I passed at balance date. Am I fine?
Not necessarily, and this is the question most worth asking. The minimum financial requirements have to be met continuously, not just at your balance date. A big job won or lost, an asset bought or sold, money put in or taken out — any of those can make a June pass stale by October. The questionnaire asks about post-balance-date events for exactly that reason, and the calendar pairs each trigger with your own number.
What is the current ratio and what does mine have to be?
Current assets over current liabilities — what you can turn into cash within twelve months against what you owe within twelve months. At every category it has to be at least 1:1, met continuously. Where any of your disallowed assets are current assets, we compute the ratio both as presented and with those items removed, and call the result on the lower of the two.
What if my net tangible assets have dropped a lot?
Then you may need a new MFR report, which is a separate engagement prepared by a qualified accountant — a decrease of more than 30% for Categories 1–3, or more than 20% for Categories 4–7. The pack works out whether you've crossed that line, tells you plainly, and reconciles the movement against dividends, drawings, tax and the rest so you can see what caused it. It doesn't produce the MFR report itself.
Is this an audit?
No. This is not an audit, a review, or any other assurance engagement. Everything is prepared from figures you provide and has not been independently verified. It is also not financial, legal or investment advice.
Not sure? Ask us

Rather ask a question first?

If you know what you need, start your pack — it takes about five minutes and you get a price on the next screen. Use this form instead if you're on Categories 4 to 7, if you're not sure the March 2025 SC1/SC2 exemption reaches you, or if you just want a question answered before you spend anything. Don't know your category? Say so — revenue tells us.

Nothing to pay now, and no obligation. If you're an SC1 or SC2 individual licensee you've been exempt since March 2025 — we'll tell you that rather than sell you a pack you don't need.
